British Airways’ owner IAG has announced an order of 53 new aircraft, including 32 Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliners’ for BA, while revealing better-than-expected first-quarter results.
The new aircraft, which include 21 Airbus A330s for Aer Lingus, Iberia and LEVEL, will be delivered between 2028 and 2033.
The new orders, which are subject to shareholder approval, are in addition to orders placed in March for six Boeing 777s plus six A350s for BA and six A350s for Iberia.
IAG revealed this morning that it had turned a €4 million post-tax loss in the first three months of 2024 into a €176m profit in the first quarter of this year.
It attributed the boost to a 9.6% increase in first quarter revenue to €7 billion(£5.9bn) and lower fuel prices. BA said it doesn’t believe US President Trump’s tariffs will affect its outlook this year, but added that it is ‘mindful of the geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty’.
Chief Executive Luis Gallego said IAG is continuing to see ‘resilient’ demand for travel across its core markets and for its brands, which include Vueling as well as BA, Aer Lingus, Iberia and LEVEL.
