BA gives Heathrow customers due to fly this weekend the option to rebook

British Airways has cancelled all short-haul flights due to operate to and from Heathrow today following a power outage at the airport.

It said it is reviewing its long-haul schedule as well as the implications for its schedules for Saturday and beyond, while the airport struggles to get the power back on.

“We will update our customers as soon as possible and we continue to ask them not to travel to Heathrow Airport, but to check on ba.com for the latest flight information,” said BA.

BA is giving customers due to travel to or from Heathrow on 22 and 23 March the option to rebook to a later date free of charge.

Customers are being asked to use the ‘manage my booking’ option online to rebook, rather than ringing BA’s contact centres due to high call volumes and the need to prioritise urgent cases.

Many of BA’s Heathrow-bound flights that were in mid-air when the power at Heathrow went off following a fire at a nearby electricity substation early this morning were diverted to other airports. The airline said affected passengers are being provided with ground transportation, where possible.
