Air India has suspended services to Gatwick from Goa and Amritsar from tomorrow (21 June) until at least mid-July.
The airline said the decision to suspend the three-times-a-week services was prompted by enhanced safety checks on planes following last week’s Air India’s UK-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash just after take-off at Ahmedabad , as well as airspace closures in the Middle East.
“Given the compounding circumstances that Air India is facing, to ensure stability of our operations, better efficiency and to minimise inconvenience to passengers, Air India has decided to reduce its international services on widebody aircraft by 15% for the next few weeks,” the airline said.
“The objective is to restore schedule stability and minimise last-minute inconvenience to passengers”
It’s also suspending its four-weekly Delhi to Nairobi service.
In addition, Air India is reducing services on two Heathrow and two Birmingham routes.
Its Delhi-Heathrow service will drop from 24 flights a week to 22 while its Bengaluru service will reduce from seven a week to six.
Two routes to Birmingham, from Amritsar and Delhi, have been reduced from three a week to two.
Air India is also reducing frequency on other routes: Paris, Milan, Copenhagen, Vienna and Amsterdam in Europe; Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Chicago and Washington in North America; and Melbourne, Sydney and Seoul.
All changes will be in place until at least 15 July. Affected passengers can reschedule or get a refund.
