An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner has been forced to turn back after suffering a technical issue, days after an Air India Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick crashed just after take-off at Ahmedabad.
The techical issue happened earlier today after Air India flight AI 315 departed Hong Kong for New Delhi. Airport officials said the aircraft landed safely back in Hong Kong three hours later.
On Friday, aviation regulators in India ordered all Boeing 787s operated by Indian carriers to be inspected following last Thursday’s crash, in which only one person on board survived. Eight of Air India’s 34 Dreamliners have been inspected so far.
Air India said at the weekend it would make an interim payout of £21,000 to each of the families of those killed in the crash. This is in addition to the £86,000 owner Tata Group had already said it would pay per passenger who died.
In a separate incident, it’s also been reported an Air India flight from Phuket to New Delhi had to make an emergency landing back in Phuket the day after the Ahmedabad disaster because of a bomb scare.
