Air India has added more flights on popular routes to London and Birmingham for this summer, but it is suspending its service between Gatwick and Kochi next month.
Kochi is in the state of Kerala, a popular holiday destination on India’s southwest coast.
The airline said it is suspending the non-stop service to London from 30 March until further notice.
Air India said this was due to a shortage of aircraft caused by the ongoing retrofit of its Boeing 777 fleet.
At the same time, it announced it will operate an extra three flights a week between Delhi and London, giving it a total of 24 weekly flights on the route from 30 March.
It will also operate an additional weekly flight between both Amritsar and Birmingham and Amristar and Gatwick, giving it a total of four a week on each route from 30 March.
And it is also increasing the frequency of its Ahmedabad to Gatwick service, from three to five flights a week.
In addition, Air India will continue to operate 12 weekly flights to Gatwick from Amritsar, Ahmedabad and Goa.
The airline said its modernisation of its Boeing 787s is ‘progressing well’, with one Boeing 787 due to re-enter service in October 2025 with new seats and a new entertainment system, followed by two to three a month, until all 27 are upgraded.
However, Air India said it had been forced to delay the retrofit of its Boeing 777 fleet, which was due to begin this year, until 2026 due to product constraints at its chosen seat supplier.
