Air China has launched a new direct service between London Gatwick and Chengdu Tianfu, marking the airport’s sixth route to China.
The summer service from Gatwick’s North Terminal will operate three flights weekly.
Services to the Sichuan capital began this week, making Chengdu the airline’s third destination from Gatwick alongside Beijing and Shanghai.
The launch comes amid continued growth in UK–China travel, with Gatwick now offering up to 61 weekly flights to six Chinese destinations during the summer peak.
Services are operated by Air China, China Eastern, China Southern and Beijing Capital Airlines.
Chengdu, one of China’s largest cities, is a key economic and cultural hub and a major gateway to the country’s western regions.
London Gatwick Head of Aviation Jonny Macneal said: “This new service to Chengdu delivers even more choice for passengers travelling between the UK and China.
“The route demonstrates the continued growth of our China network and the strong demand we’re seeing for travel between the UK and Asia.”
