The Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for Thailand as severe flooding its affecting several parts of the country following heavy rainfall since Thursday.
The latest update warns that Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan have all been hit, with all 50 districts of Bangkok declared disaster-affected areas.
UK agents returning from the G Adventures’ GX Summit in Cambodia’s Siem Reap, which finished yesterday, have been caught up in travel disruption as their flights via Bangkok are delayed or cancelled. 16 UK agents attended the summit, which lasted five days.
The Thai government has declared 28 and 29 September special public holidays in the affected areas, including Bangkok, in response to the situation.
The FCDO update says: “Severe flooding is affecting parts of Thailand following heavy rainfall in a number of provinces, including Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan. All 50 districts of Bangkok have been declared disaster-affected areas. Travel disruption, including road closures and flooding of low-lying areas, is possible.
“The Thai government has declared special public holidays on 28 and 29 September in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan. Many government offices and services may be closed or operating with reduced capacity. Follow the advice of local authorities if you plan to travel.”
Thai Airways is recommending passengers allow extra travel time to Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok) due to possible traffic delays in flood-affected areas. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before travel.
Meanwhile, flooding and severe weather are also affecting parts of Mexico, with Hurricane Polo bringing the threat of storm surges, high winds and heavy rainfall to the Baja California peninsula.
Hurricane Nolo has also brought heavy rain to parts of Hawaii as it moves away from the islands.
