Agent launches fundraiser for local hospice in memory of customer

Independent agent Mark Bratt has launched a JustGiving campaign for a local hospice that cared for one of his customers.

Mark, Director of Mark Bratt Travel in Manchester, wants to fulfil the wish of Cath O’Neill who died last month from cancer, aged 70, to raise money a local hospice, St Ann’s.

Mark said: “I met Cath at the beginning of last year and at that point she had just finished cancer treatment but she felt that her time was limited. She was full of life and wanted Mark Bratt Travel to help her fulfil her travel wish list while she could.

“We made her first two wishes come true – to go paddleboarding on Mar Menor in Spain and to see the Santorini sunset. Her next wish was to see the Northern Lights and we were looking at Hurtigruten Cruises through Norway when she called me to say that the doctors had said that she had become too ill to travel.

“We tried to give her one final bit of luxury at the Buxton Crescent hotel over Christmas but sadly by the time it came around, she had been admitted to St Ann’s Hospice in Heald Green on end of life care and was too ill to make the journey to Buxton.

“It was her final wish that we raise some money for the hospice that cared for her so well over her final weeks.”

Mark added: “I know I am not alone in this industry in feeling the immense privilege in helping people see the world. I wish we could have done more for Cath. I hope others can help us raise a little money to fulfil that last wish.”

To encourage pledges, the Buxton Crescent Hotel has donated a two-night stay for two, including breakfast and full access to its spa facilities. Everyone who donates will be entered into a prize draw to win the stay.
