Visit USA events raise £10k for charity

Visit USA Association UK (Visit USA UK) marked its 30th anniversary with its annual Media Awards and Summer Affair, raising more than £10,000 for Just a Drop – the largest amount the association has raised during the events to date.

The awards, held at the Savage Garden rooftop in London on 30 June, recognised 18 travel writers, broadcasters and content creators for ‘outstanding coverage’ of US destinations over the past year.

Five special awards also honoured exceptional contributions to promoting travel to the US, with travel journalist Mary Moore Mason receiving a Lifetime Achievement award.

Celebrations continued at the Summer Affair at The Hurlingham Club on 1 July, attended by 360 guests, who got the chance to win prizes including US trips.

Headline sponsor World Travel Market (WTM) has supported the Summer Affair since 2007, with proceeds benefiting Just a Drop. Over the course of the partnership, Visit USA UK has helped raise more than £90,000 for the charity’s projects that have provided nearly two million people with access to safe water and sanitation.

Just a Drop Founder and Chair Fiona Jeffery said: “The Visit USA Summer Affair is a highlight of our calendar. The partnership between Visit USA UK and WTM has created an incredible legacy, helping transform communities across Asia, Africa and Latin America. The generosity shown by the travel industry and media demonstrates the positive impact we can achieve when we come together.”

Visit USA UK CEO Kate Kenward said: “The Media Awards and Summer Affair are our flagship events of the year and it is wonderful to see the trade and media’s enthusiasm and support for the USA and the Association.”
