Villa Vie Residences’ Odyssey ship has failed its first US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) health inspection.
The residential ship, which is currently on its first world voyage, scoring 81 out of 100 during the inspection on 9 July. To pass, cruise lines need to achieve a score of at least 86.
The most serious violations were around the ship’s drinking water, according to Cruise Radio. Inspectors indicated that chlorine levels were consistently below required levels on several days in June, it reported.
There were also issues with the ship’s two swimming pools, which did not have safety signs, prominent depth markers in feet and meters, it said.
There were a number of violations in regard to food storage, including improper time and temperature control for items such as cream and desserts, around 30 pieces of hot holding and cold holding equipment were out of order, and a number of refrigerators were not labelled or listed on the ship’s time control plan.
According to the ship’s itinerary, it had been in Juneau, Alaska, on the date of inspection, and it is now in Japan.
The CDC has given its recommendations of improvements the ship will need to make to pass a follow-up inspection.
