AmaWaterways will start offering a range of City Escapes on the Seine, the Danube and the Rhine from this November.
The new packages will feature longer stopovers in ‘iconic’ cities, such as Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna and Budapest.
Managing Director Jamie Loizou said they will enable guests to ‘really get under the skin’ of the destinations at a time when the cities have fewer tourists.
Jamie said in contrast to the outdoor activities AmaWaterways offers in the summer, City Escapes will feature more museum visits and indoor activities.
Each sailing will include stopovers of at least 24 hours in key cities and more daylight sailings. For example, on the Seine, guests will have extended time in Paris, Rouen and Normandy, with options including cooking classes with locals and chateau visits.
AmaWaterways said more details, including the on-sale date, will be released shortly.
President and CEO Catherine Powell said she was also interested in adding more rivers to AmaWaterways’ programme. “We would like to sail on lots of different rivers and we are exploring them now. We are looking at Asia and looking at putting different types of experiences into Egypt. We have also been looking in Europe, but we have no news yet.”
Unlike some other cruise lines, AmaWaterways is continuing its Nile cruises, despite the conflict in the Middle East. Catherine said all guests in Egypt had opted to continue with their holidays, and no Brits due to travel had opted to cancel.
